These are the faces to the countless people who are no more than statistics in the final death toll of a military operation.
The Box, was inspired by the confrontation in November 2012 between Israel and the Hamas government in Gaza: Operation Pillar of Defense. After covering the war, we decided to go back. We settled down a temporary studio a month after this operation and we portrayed by lighting and writing the people we met during the war.
This three months long Project is the result of our will to portray Gaza when no one is looking at her but also an exploration on how siege and daily conflict affect human beings psychologically. The portraits are and intimate approach to the subjects that verge on the madness and obscurity that lays in the different layers of their consciousness, like a continuous nightmare that they face fearless but disturbed.
